Welcome to Seaward Cottage! If your vision of a perfect Maine vacation includes a classic, summer cottage on Maine’s rocky, deep water coast, then the Seaward Cottage is the choice for you. This quaint 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is perched ideally on the shore to allow for sweeping views of the open ocean. Guests here will revel at the majestic scenery visible from every angle.
From the moment you enter the cottage, you will feel your stress and worries melt away. The Seaward Cottage has everything you need to relax, unwind, and recharge your batteries.
The main floor of the cottage has an open concept kitchen, dining area, and living room. Views from the large windows across the front of the cottage will capture your attention right from the start. You will find yourself gazing out at the blues of the ocean and thinking that this is "the way life should be". It’s a view you will never tire of.
Also located on the main level is the primary bedroom with a queen bed, the full bathroom and laundry area. The second floor is a loft area with 3 twin beds and a perfect spot for the kids to play a board game.
The Seaward Cottage boasts a 180 degree view of the water with 400 feet of rocky shore frontage. The side and front decks give you the perfect vantage point to contemplate the ocean, watch lobster boats, or sit and enjoy your favorite novel. If you prefer to sit closer to the water, there is a fire pit area and a separate meditation bench just steps from the ocean’s edge.
For guests looking to explore the area, there’s so much to see in Downeast Maine. Hikers will find both challenging trails and ones that allow for a leisurely stroll. Some of our favorites include the Ingersoll Trail in South Addison, Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge in Steuben, The Bold Coast trails and Boot Head Preserve in Cutler, Great Wass Island Trails on Beals Island, Schoodic Peninsula in Winter Harbor, and West Quoddy Head Lighthouse Trails in Lubec. These are just a few choices to consider.
Take a day and plan a trip to Lubec and Eastport. Maybe even catch a glimpse of the sunrise from West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec – the easternmost point in the US. Continue your trek “down east” to Eastport to wander through galleries, fish for mackerel off the town pier, or take a whale watching cruise. Don’t forget to stop and sample some of the best lobster rolls around.
Acadia National Park is also a “must see” for guests to our area. Plan a day or a couple of day trips to witness this breathtaking park and the beautiful coastal town of Bar Harbor. The town is a bustling spot in the summer and fall with loads of restaurants, shops, a couple of movie theatres, bars, and tourist activities. You can take a kayak tour, hop on a whale watch tour, rent a bike or a stand up paddle board. We highly recommend getting yourself out on the water to witness the majesty of the Maine coast.
Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are a 1 ½ hour drive from the cottage. Parking in town can be a challenge, so plan to arrive early before the choice spots are all taken.
Or try something a little different, and hop aboard the Winter Harbor Ferry. This passenger only ferry leaves from Winter Harbor and offers a short “cruise” to Bar Harbor. Disembark right in front of the Bar Harbor Inn and walk around the town, walk the shore path, eat lunch, and hop back on the ferry at the end of the day. It’s a wonderful way to experience the water and the Maine coast.
For guests who just want to “stay put” and enjoy their time at the cottage, the house offers everything you need. A full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, pots & pans, microwave, coffee maker, etc is at your disposal. Sorry, no dishwasher, but you will have a fabulous view while you do the dishes. There is also a TV with Firestick so you can access your Amazon Prime account and any streaming services you have through that.
Bring the books you’ve been meaning to read because this is the perfect spot to sit and relax. Or, If you are a budding artist, be sure to pack your art supplies. The rocky shoreline is waiting for you to capture in a painting. Set up your easel and let you inner John Marin shine through. Practice your art and capture the coastal vistas on canvas.
