The lovable Cape Split Cottage, situated in South Addison, Maine, is perched high above winding sandy beaches and crashing surf that typifies the picturesque Cape Split shoreline.
This charming two bedroom cottage boasts one of the most spectacular views and beachfronts that Hearts of Maine has to offer. Its panoramic views of the sandy and rugged coastal islands are scenes that will be forever etched in the minds of its guests.
The Cape Split peninsula, harbor and tiny fishing village are tucked away gems in an area of coastal Maine that we highly recommend experiencing. Strolling the beaches, quiet cape walks along scenic lanes, carefree bike rides, sea kayaking forays, friendly people and affordable lobsters from the village highlight this vacation destination.
The light streams into the westerly seaward facing side of the Cape Split Cottage through its large ocean view windows. The light is particularly comforting as the afternoon turns into evening and a golden glow settles within the great-room from grand sunsets.
This cozy two bedroom cottage offers a private master bedroom with queen size bed, and guest room with both double and twin beds. The cottage has 1½ baths and its great room features an open kitchen and ocean view dining area and living room. It has an ocean-side grilling and sitting deck and nice access to its beachfront. The cottage also provides satellite TV with DVD, Internet access, radio/CD player, all linens, drip coffee maker, cook-ware, place settings, utensils, washer, dryer and gas grill.
Within 30 minutes of the cottage are coastal hikes at Great Wass Island and at McClellan Park in Milbridge. Also, inland mountain hikes at Catherine’s and Tunk Mountains in Township 10.
Restaurants in Machias and Milbridge also allow guests to experience terrific seafood and the local color. Good fishing abounds in the lakes around the Machias and Cherryfield areas, or you can fish for trout in one of the nearby streams. Antique shops dot the many area coastal villages and Machias has a number of interesting shops for guests to explore.
A little further away in Cutler, Hearts of Maine recommends the coastal sightseeing and Atlantic Puffin tours aboard the Barbara Frost with Captain Andy Patterson. We also highly recommend the whale watching and schooner cruises with Captain Butch Harris on the Sylvina Beal out of Eastport. Whatever your interest in a rural setting, we think vacationers will enjoy the laid-back atmosphere which this part of Downeast Maine provides.
