A couple of nice walking trails are also just around the corner. If kayaking is more your style, you can easily launch kayaks at the beach and explore the shoreline to your heart’s content.

For folks who want to stay at home and relax, the Evening Shores House offers plenty of space and comfort. Relax in the living room or spend some time reading in the sunroom. If you are looking for groceries or to do a little shopping for local trinkets, the town of Machias is just 15 minutes away. This little town has everything you need with a grocery store, restaurants, gas stations, and several interesting shops. Your major shopping can be accomplished at the Hannaford on Route 1. Machias is also lucky to have a local farmer’s market style store called the Machias Market Place. This gem of a store offers locally grown vegetables, farm fresh milks, yogurts and cheeses, local meats, fresh bakery goods, and take out dinner options from Angie’s Comfort Kitchen.

Using the Evening Shores House as your jumping off point for adventure, plan to travel north to Lubec and explore this quaint, fishing village and the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Visit the lighthouse museum or walk the trails along the ocean. You can also travel across the bridge from Lubec to Campobello Island, Canada. Remember to bring your passports as you will need them to cross the border. Once on Campobello Island, don’t forget to visit FDR’s summer cottage and take in high tea. Golfers will enjoy the Herring Cove Golf Course with its well-manicured grounds. Or travel to the far end of the island to take in the views at East Quoddy Lighthouse. You may even be lucky enough to see a whale from the shore! Travel back across the bridge and stop at one of Lubec’s local eateries for a true Downeast treat.

The main floor houses two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, open concept living room, kitchen and dining area, and a lovely sun room. A third bedroom is located in the lower level. Amenities include 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, full kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, dishes, satellite TV, Internet access, washer, dryer, sheets and bath towels.

Don’t forget to try some of Maine’s delicacies while in the area. Cook your own lobster in the lobster pot provided at the house. Just contact Nadine at Mother Shuckers in Roque Bluffs to order some “fresh off the boat” lobster and take them home for your own private lobster feed.

Sightseers and history buffs alike will also find their interests peaked. Visit the Burnham Tavern in Machias or the Ruggles House in Columbia Falls. There are so many sites to see and enjoy.

Rental fees:

The advertised rental rate covers the weekly rent + a cleaning after your stay. The Maine State Lodging tax (9%) and a separate, refundable damage deposit ($500.00) are charged in addition to the rental rate.

A down payment of 50% of the rent + state tax total is due within 14 days of making your reservation. The rental balance (50% of the rent + state tax total) and the separate. Refundable damage deposit ($500.00) are due 30 days before arrival.

Evening Shores House does not allow pets of any kind. Smoking is not permitted at this property.

The house is 15 minutes from Machias, 1 1/2 hours from Ellsworth, 1 3/4 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and 2 hours from Bangor International Airport.

The house is also 1 1/2 hours from Lubec, Eastport, Campobello Island, Calais and St. Stephen Canada.

Portland is 4 hours away, Boston is a 6 hour drive and New York City is 9 hours away.
