This classic New Englander style home is located on picturesque Beals Island, Maine. Built in 1914, this quaint home boasts specialty details including patterned wood floor, pocket doors, a stained glass window and specialty millwork. Older home enthusiasts will be living their best life inside this home.

Marietta’s Legacy is located on Beals Island in coastal Washington County. Beals Island is a classic fishing/lobstering community with a long history of fishing families. You can get a true, authentic feel of downeast Maine by spending time on this quaint, yet lovely island.

The property is situated on a corner lot in a quiet neighborhood on the island and has a westerly view to the harbor and Moosabec Reach. There is a large lawn for the kids to play and enjoy. Across the street is a working fishing/lobster wharf. Watch the boats come in and drop off their daily catch!

When you enter the house, you feel right at home in the cozy foyer. Slip off your shoes and leave your cares, because this house is set up for your relaxation. The quaint kitchen is your next stop. Many of the original classic features remain, but the owners have also added modern updates. Let your inner chef take over and feel right at home here.

The remainder of the main level includes a sunny and cheery living room, dining room with a bay window, and a full bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. Beautiful, patterned wood floors grace the entire main level of the house. There is nothing like the charm of these classic wood floors.

The second level is where you will find 3 bedrooms and another bathroom. Marietta’s Legacy can accommodate 5 guests comfortably. The main bedroom has a queen sized, Sleep Number bed. Relax in bed and enjoy the views of the working waterfront. In addition to the main bedroom, there are two guest bedrooms. One offers a queen bed and the other provides an extra-long twin bed. Bed linens, blankets, pillows and bath towels are included in the rental.

Beals Island and the adjacent town of Jonesport treat our visitors to the true experience of coastal, Downeast Maine. Feel like you have been transported back in time to a simpler, quieter way of life. People smile and wave to everyone and the pace of life is slower.

There are plenty of outdoor options for recreation when you visit Downeast Maine. Our family friendly area includes opportunities to hike, kayak, go on a boat tour, visit historic places and just enjoy nature. There are many hikes to experience in Washington and Hancock counties. Many are easy to moderate hikes, so the entire family can participate. Nearby trails include Great Wass Wildlife Preserve on Beals Island, the Ingersoll Trail in South Addison, and Petit Manan Wildlife Preserve in Steuben. If you want to venture out a bit more, make a plan to travel to Cuter and walk the Bold Coast Trails, Western Head or Boot Head Preserve.

Taking in the sights and sounds of the rocky coast of Maine from the water is also possible. Kayaking the coast gives our visitors a unique perspective of Maine’s rocky and wild coast. Boat tours, such as Puffin Tours, whale watching or lobster boat tours are another fabulous option to experience the area.

World renowned Acadia National Park is a spot that everyone should experience at least once in their lives. The Park is an easy day trip for those who want to check this off their bucket list. Whether you choose to head to the main part of Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor or if you choose to visit the lesser known Schoodic Peninsula in Winter Harbor, you will not be disappointed. Tourists adore the Bar Harbor area for its natural beauty, hiking, shops, restaurants, golf courses, boat tours and activities galore. One day is generally not enough to take it all in. You may need to plan a couple of day trips to see all that you want to see.

If you yearn for a quieter way of life, travel north on Route 1 to Lubec and Eastport. These coastal communities are ready to welcome all visitors. Spend a day visiting the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec. Tour the lighthouse museum and hike the trails. Then head into town for a little shopping and a good meal.

Eastport is another popular town to visit. This area is known for its artists and Eastport is a great spot to discover your newest, favorite local artists. Galleries and shops dot the main street. Spend some time wandering in and out of the shops and then enjoy a nice meal on the waterfront.

The advertised rental rate covers the weekly rent + a cleaning after your stay. The Maine State Lodging tax (9%) and a separate, refundable damage deposit ($500.00) are charged in addition to the rental rate.

A down payment of 50% of the rent + state tax total is due within 14 days of making your reservation. The rental balance (50% of the rent + state tax total) and the separate. Refundable damage deposit ($500.00) are due 30 days before arrival.

Marietta’s Legacy does not allow pets of any kind. Smoking and fireworks are not permitted at this property.

The house is 25 minutes from Machias, 1 1/2 hours from Ellsworth, 1 3/4 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and 2 hours from Bangor International Airport.

The house is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Lubec, Eastport, Campobello Island, Calais and St. Stephen Canada.

Portland is 4 hours away, Boston is a 6 hour drive and New York City is 9 hours away.
